Hello? Is this Speedy Pizza? I’d like to order 10,000 pizzas for Detroit. We’re at the Palace. D’a know the Palace? Yeah, I AM serious. I’m very serious. You can’t make 10,000? Just make as many as you can. OK. What? My name is Bono…
It was March 27th 1992 when U2 left Detroit fans with an enduring tale: The night Bono ordered 10,000 pizzas for the crowd at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Some people don’t believe it happened. Here’s the visual proof: Mike Thompson-illustrated video, narrated by Dave Williamson, one of the pizza delivery drivers that night.
I’m surely not the first to do this, but I want to keep my own record of all the U2 Concerts in Australia. There were never many (particularly in Adelaide), so it’s amazing to find many photographs or articles.
Here is the First U2 Concert in Australia. I, unfortunately due to financial constraints, did not make it to the 1993 concert. I remember selling my camera gear, used in 1992 at the Adelaide Grandprix, to get the funds – but didn’t raise enough. Thankfully there were more concerts…

Maybe this is the first time you have seen this, but the U2Shrine has existed for about 20 years!
I was hosting all the photos within my site. It took me forever to determine that the U2Shrine deserved so much better premises!
Much of the text will be replaced with photographs of my paraphernalia – records, magazines, newspaper clippings and more – making it easy viewing for everyone. I have plans to sell some.
My LastFM account
will continue to stay where it is has disappeared into the void (updated 12.Nov.2018).
As we have moved to Kangaroo Island, my collection of paraphernalia is currently in multiple locations, and some of it boxed for preservation. 2019 will bring extra time on weekends to open those boxes, determine what is worth salvaging, and slowly selling all that I can. We need to buy a house.
Over the last ten years I have written a few articles about my life as a U2 Fan in Australia:
One of eleven photographs from the Adelaide U2 Concert on November 16th 2006. Taken by a friend who was in the front row and got some decent shots from a mobile phone.
Bono did ask the crowd to get out the mobile phones to text makepovertyhistory.org. Most phones had cameras so I cropped this selection down to 1024×768. Yes, they are all bit blurry.
The most fantastic night of my life was U2 in Adelaide, 15th November 2006. It was definitely a concert worth waiting to see live!
Listening to Bono‘s amazing vocals and The Edge‘s melodic guitar-riffs, Adam‘s bass guitar, all laid over Larry‘s drumming skills, made this playlist flow so easily:
